We are currently seeking a Heavy Duty Mechanical Apprentice to join our highly skilled team in Maddington. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build their career in mobile plant mechanics within a professional and well established civil contracting company.

About the Role

As a Heavy Duty Mechanical Apprentice, you will learn to maintain, service and repair a wide range of plant and machinery to meet required specifications and company standards. You’ll work closely with experienced tradespeople and the Workshop Manager to develop strong technical skills while contributing to the safe and efficient operation of our fleet.

This role suits someone who is proactive, reliable, eager to learn.

Key Responsibilities

• Learn from the Workshop Manager and tradespeople, following instructions and supporting workshop operations.
• Service and maintain plant and machinery to ensure safe and efficient operation.
• Assist in diagnosing, reporting and documenting maintenance needs.
• Interpret user manuals to support servicing, repairs and fault finding.
• Update service records using digital spreadsheets and workshop systems.
• Attend technical training and commit to continuous skills development.
• Operate small plant and equipment responsibly and safely.
• Maintain workshop cleanliness and promote high standards of housekeeping.
• Attend site inductions, toolbox meetings and safety briefings as required.
• Follow company HR, HSEQ and IMS procedures, reporting hazards or incidents promptly.
• Represent DM Civil professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
• Ensure confidentiality of company information and appropriate storage of tools and materials.

Essential Skills & Attributes

• Completed 2nd or 3rd year of a Cert III Mobile Plant Technology (Mobile Plant Equipment) apprenticeship.
• Demonstrated interest in mechanical systems for heavy earthmoving equipment and trucks.
• Familiarity with construction equipment and safe operating practices.
• Strong ability to follow instructions, manage time and complete tasks efficiently.
• Problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to identify and resolve issues.
• Solid written and verbal communication skills; competency in Microsoft Office.
• Professionalism, reliability and a strong work ethic.
• Positive attitude and willingness to learn and improve.
• Preferably: farming background or previous experience with heavy duty mobile equipment.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Current C class driver’s licence (HR licence advantageous or willingness to upgrade).
• Working at Heights qualification (desirable).
• Construction Safety Awareness Card (White/Blue Card).
• Internal HSEQ induction and Excavation Code of Practice (or willingness to complete).
• Water Corporation induction (or willingness to complete).
