ABOUT PERTH RACINGThe Western Australian Turf Club (trading as Perth Racing) has a remarkable history of hosting thoroughbred horse racing for nearly 160 years.  Perth Racing is a multi-faceted racing, entertainment and event business.  At their two premier metropolitan tracks, Ascot Racecourse and Belmont Park, they host around 95 race meetings every year as well as frequent non-raceday events. ABOUT THE ROLEAn exciting opportunity has arisen for three (3) Racecourse - Sports Turf Apprentices to join Perth Racing’s Racecourse Team in January 2025 or any time after completing year 12, if preferred. This fulltime apprenticeship position reports to the Racecourse Manager and involves some weekend raceday and public holiday work. Working in a team with experienced Track Maintenance Operators, this role is responsible for assisting in presenting and maintaining tracks, grounds and racing facilities at Ascot Racecourse and Belmont Park to the highest possible standard. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who is keen to work outdoors and has an interest in sports turf management and horticulture.  You will gain the knowledge and practical skills to work effectively in Sports Turf Management during a four-year apprenticeship. You will work within a professional, friendly environment within beautiful grounds, in an exciting, fast paced Sport/ Event industry and receive a nationally recognised qualification on successful completion. PRIMARY DUTIESThe Racecourse - Sports Turf Apprentice undertakes the following duties and responsibilities:Undertake maintenance of turf, synthetic and sand tracksPerform key duties during racedaysMaintain gardens and surrounds, including mowing, brush cutting and other manual tasksEmbarking on a 4-year apprenticeship on a fulltime basisWorking towards the achievement of Certificate III in Sports Turf ManagementCourse work, which will be undertaken at TAFE during block release classes On the job training, which will be gained through working alongside the Racecourse Manager and the Tracks Team at Ascot and Belmont Park RacecoursesPerforms work in a safe manner and in accordance with Perth Racing values and policies and procedures. SKILLS AND EXPERIENCEWe are seeking a highly motivated and reliable individual with the following skills: Good communication skills Ability to follow instructionsAbility to work as part of a team Be open to learning, new ideas and techniquesAbility to perform the physical requirements of the roleWilling to perform duties in all elements of weather Willing to work on rotating Saturdays and public holidaysA current drivers’ licence and dependable transportCompleted year 12 Why join Perth Racing?Perth Racing is a vibrant and highly supportive organisation with a proud history and an exciting future.
